Mansfield Public Library – Display Case Policy

The mission of the Mansfield Public Library is to encourage thoughtful and engaging discourse, to nurture creativity and imagination, to support lifelong learning, and to provide safe, comfortable, and welcoming spaces for all.

The Library display case may be used for educational and informational exhibitions which may be sponsored by the schools, town departments, and other local organizations.

The Mansfield Public Library has one display case located in the Main Lobby of the Library/COA that is available to the community for display. The display case has 2 adjustable glass shelves and is approximately 51 inches high, 21 inches deep and 81 inches long  with a curved front on the right.

Guidelines:

  1. Those interested in using the Library display case must complete a Display Case application and acknowledge reading a copy of the Library’s Display Case Policy. No exhibit can be installed without permission from the Director. In the selection of exhibits, priority is given to Mansfield residents or those otherwise connected to the town.
  2. Display Case is not to be used to advertise commercial enterprises. Fliers and cards accompanying exhibits should be informational in nature and not serve to solicit customers or promote a business. Artist contact information may be included on information materials.
  3. Religious proselytizing and partisan political recruitment are similarly prohibited; educational exhibits on these subjects are allowed.
  4. In planning their displays, exhibitors should be aware that the space is viewable by all members of the public of all ages.
  5. Materials exhibited in the library do not represent the views of the library administration or trustees and exhibition does not imply their endorsement.
  6. The library assumes no responsibility for the preservation, protection, or possible damage or theft of any item displayed. Exhibit areas are not monitored by staff.

Booking:

  1. Exhibit space is booked through the Library Director or their designee and is available on a first-come, first-served basis.
  2. Exhibit space may be booked up to one year in advance. The Library reserves the right to change exhibition dates if necessary but will make every reasonable effort to coordinate a satisfactory arrangement with exhibitors should such action be necessary.
  3. Displays are generally scheduled for a thirty-day period.
  4. Once you are notified of the date of your display, please remember that you agree to set up your exhibit between the 1st and 3rd of the month assigned. You will also be responsible for picking up your exhibit by the last day of the month.
  5. If you have questions, please contact Catherine Coyne, Library Director, Mansfield Public Library, 508-261-7380, ccoyne@sailsinc.org

The library will remove any display that is not retrieved by its owner from the case in time for the next display.
